There are certain awkward moments that only introverts can understand. So, for your viewing pleasure, I’ve put together some fun introvert memes that highlight the top 10 introvert awkward moments. If you think of any other ones that I missed, feel free to share in the comments section.
1. That awkward moment when you have no idea what to do with your hands during a conversation.
2. That awkward moment when someone catches you trying to leave a party without saying goodbye, and you are forced to do the farewell rounds.
3. That awkward moment when you are in an elevator with a stranger and you don’t know if you should make small talk or not.
4. That awkward moment when you are in a stand-off with an introvert you like because neither of you will make the first move.
5. That awkward moment when someone points out that you’re being quiet and you have no idea how to respond.
6. That awkward moment when someone thinks you are staring at them when you’re actually just daydreaming and looking in their direction.
7. That awkward moment when people assume that you are shy, or socially inept just because you don’t talk a lot.
8. That awkward moment your friend asks you a question in front of a group of people and you can’t think of anything to say.
9. That awkward moment when people assume you’re unintelligent because you talk slowly.
10. That awkward moment when you think of something really awesome to say, but the conversation has already moved on to new topics.
Wow, I just want to say stumbling on to this site has been an eye opener for me! Reading 10 awkward moments, I just kept saying ” wow been there!” Thank you!
Hi Melissa! You’re very welcome. I’m glad you found me. 🙂 How did you happen to stumble upon the site?
I can relate to almost all of them ha ha ha!
Except to the first. I usually leave my arms hanging when the topic isn’t deep, and usually gesticulate when the topic is deep.
I don’t talk slowly. I had that awkward moment so many times in my childhood that now I talk very quickly (faster than extroverts. Ugh). I’ve been trying to correct that.
And I’ve got the per-fect solution to the party awkward moment! Just say goodbye to a couple of persons you know and leave. If anyone asks where are you, they will tell you’ve leaved. Simple and effective!
I like a lot this humorous posts!
I like to let my arms hang, too, Ivo. And great advice regarding saying goodbye at parties. 😉
#10 stands out in my mind! I think all these moments have more to do with a lack of social confidence though, more than being just introvert. A lack of social confidence can be caused by not picking up certain social clues as easily as others, or not being able to process the information bounced back and forth in a conversation as quickly as others, which means you find yourself struggling to keep up, getting left out of the conversation and people think you’re just a quiet person.
There’s nothing wrong with being a quiet type though, in fact a quieter type with a strong body language can actually come across as quite alpha (male or female) and have quite a presence about them, perhaps because although they don’t say much, what they do say carries a lot more meaning than what all the chatty types say!
As for Moment #5, I have a simple answer to that. Just say “Well I haven’t got anything to say to add value to the discussion.” You can’t argue with that!
I agree that having confident body language can transform how people see you, even if you’re really quiet. 🙂
#10! Always #10. It’s like I have the thought, toss it away for a moment, and then it comes back a little too late like a mental boomerang. 😛
Haha, yes, it’s so frustrating, isn’t it! A mental boomerang is a good way to describe it. 🙂
Experienced 9 of them. I usually talk very fast. 🙂
So true! I also often find myself being asked a question and I have been so busy daydreaming that I did not hear it and am to embarrassed to say so cause I got 20 eyes on me:s
Haha! Number 10 happens to me all the time.
I think I’m experiencing #4 right now,heaven help me!
Number 10 is me. Sometimes I think of so many things to say that I end up at something totally awesome and well thought ! But ofcourse the conversation is over and in my head I’m like “C’MOOON…”.
The number 5 is my nigthmare
I experience the #2 awkward moment often…even at family gatherings.
Haha, Yip… been there… done that… 😀 But number 10 happens at the worst possible time (/_\). Then you start playing out how the conversation could’ve happened.
woww.. awesome.. always me..
a place you frequent, say the gym…..and you see the same faces over and over again, but don’t know whether to finally say hi or not b/c you’ve already played out the scenario of having to say hi to this person everyday, and it fills you with dread….so you don’t and just settle with looking like a rude person lol
I burst out laughing at #2. Instantly thought of the dreaded work functions. I am so so glad to have found your blog. It’s wonderful. I can relate to most everything. It’s very refreshing to read all about myself written by someone else! I wish you were my neighbor! Thank you.
Ohmigosh #10 is so relevant to my life. If I try to bring up the passed-by topic, there’s a 50/50 chance that people will cal me weird for it, too. I’ve preferred talking on the internet to talking in real life since I was about nine because of this.
That’s me .. Yeah , so i m a pure introvert right?!…
We introverts are simply amazing!
#10 is so true for me. I always come up with my best comments/responses several minutes/hours/days/years after the moment has passed.
