Introverts struggle with specific insecurities that many people don’t understand. These secret insecurities can be very painful, especially when you feel like you’re the only one who has these struggles.
That’s exactly how I used to feel. I thought that I was a big ol’ weirdo because I couldn’t seem to overcome what I saw as major character flaws.
Thankfully, I now know that most introverts have felt exactly the same way I did, and there’s nothing horribly wrong with me after all!
I explain the top three introvert insecurities in today’s video. I also reveal a behind the scenes look at what happened on the 2018 introvert retreat in Sacred Valley, Peru.
Before you hear my honest take on the retreat experience, which actually really surprised me in many ways, I wanted to give you a quick heads up about this year’s retreat…

Here’s what other participants had to say about the retreat:
“It was a pleasure to be around like-minded people. It was an acceptance I’ve never felt before in my life and I’ve been searching for since I was a kid. It was reinforcement that there are people out there who understand…I felt a sense of fellowship. It was very healing.” —Marian
“In overwhelming situations the recovery time was shortened. What would normally take days took hours. The group somehow provides recharging when a group normally doesn’t do that. It’s weird.” —Holly
“Wow, these guys really care for me. It’s always nice to know that people have your back. You feel more comfortable. I felt good the whole time because I was with good people…There was a willingness to help and caring you wouldn’t expect from strangers.” —Julio
“It helped me see it’s okay to do stuff for myself. It was really inspiring for me to be around you guys.”—Laina
During our closing discussion circle, when organizer Melissa Renzi asked the group what they would tell people about their introvert retreat experience, the response was unanimous, and delightfully introverted:
“Nothing.”
Marian, an INFJ from the U.S., added, “We understand here, and that’s enough.”

Love,
Thank-you for this information on introverts. I’m aproaching 60 and I never knew that I was born as an innie; I always struggled to overcome my natural traits of over thinking and being “too quiet” and shutting down in a large group, etc. This information has helped me to accept myself as normal, although different. I have thought of sharing some of your videos with my extrovert friends who don’t understand our ways as innies, but they are probably too long for an extrovert to listen to completely. Could you create a brief explanation to the way we process info etc so I could share? I’d appreciate that. Thanks again for helping me.
Thanks Julie, perhaps this video will do the trick: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMxwiVth_ss
I tottally relate to those 3 insecurities and have always felt bad and less intelligent for being slow to respond in conversations!!! Thank you for sharing <3
Thanks for sharing that, dear! I’m glad you could relate. 🙂 xo
Wowww, so blown away by this video!!!! Well done
Aww thanks Fiona! Glad you liked it! 🙂 <3
Hi Michaela! First of all, I just wanna say how beautiful you are inside out. I’ve subscribed to your vlog not too long ago and I even receive weekly emails from your blog and I would have to say, I feel so happy and thankful for representing introverts like me Every story you share is like me sharing my own story with everyone. And now it makes me love and appreciate myself more and just be myself. So much thanks to you. I hope to meet you soon. 😀
Aww thanks so much for saying that Mary! I’m so happy my work has touched you. 🙂 xo
Thanks for this, Michaela.
I had no idea there were retreats just for introverts. Being amongst people who understand sounds like bliss.
Good luck with the new book release, I’m already looking forward to it 🙂
Thanks so much Al! 🙂
I found out about my personality type last year and it is one of the best moments that ever happened in my life. Never is too late. I’ve been reading a lot about the elements in personality and I don’t regret being an infj. Honestly, after watching this mind-blowing video I feel so belonged and connected with the people who is also walking in my shoe. It makes me feel less lonesome and weird. I see and interpret the word weird to another different level now–I no longer associate being weird with its literal meaning. I begin to appreciate my being and the purpose of my existence in this world. In the video when you spoke about the three insecurities–hellya I got me prepared with a pen and paper and wrote them down! I wish I too had the luxury to be in the group as I am far away on the other side of the world (Malaysia) but nevertheless this video sufficeth and it gives me hope. Appreciate all that you are doing and contributing in your endeavours. ?
Very good video Michaela. Love your presence. Very calm and welcoming. I wonder though if it is difficult at times for you to make these videos. I know it would be for me. I am INFJ and would be so worried about being judged. Thank you for sharing with us and helping all of us innies understand ourselves better!
Thank you Michaela, you are always so spot on. Finding out at 53 that I’m an introvert has helped me find myself. I related to all 3 insecurities, especially the third one. I do withdraw from conversations because they go from one topic to the next so quickly I feel so lost. I’m married to an extrovert, who is very patient and understanding and I love him for this. My family on the other hand is harder to deal with, they are so loud and over bearing, and prevents me from a lot of get togethers or I just leave early. This makes me feel guilty! But your books, emails, blogs, videos really help me to feel good about who I am. So thank you for being there for all of us “Innies”
Love, love, LOVE it this video. Thank you for having the amazing ability to express what I am unable to verbalize to others.?
HI Michaela!
are there any retreats between december and april?
Hi Hafsa, there are but I think they are fully booked. I will send you an email with information. 🙂
