This is one of the most frustrating aspects of being an introvert. Oftentimes, you want to do so much more than your energy allows. Tiredness becomes your default state as you struggle with limited introvert energy and a constant war with overwhelm. Then you start to feel bad about yourself, as you compare yourself to busybody extroverts who are constantly seizing the day.
But, of course, there are times when you’re really on it. You hit the peak of your introvert energy cycle and your productivity levels soar. This can feel amazing, until you hit that inevitable wall and you suddenly feel tired as hell. The most frustrating part is that this dip in energy can really mess up your plans.
I was going to do so much, and then I sat down
Maybe you wake up in the morning thinking, I’m gonna ace this day!!! You have all these grand plans to get important sh*t done. Unfortunately, your mind and body have other plans for you. That’s exactly what happened to me today.
If you’re a subscriber to my mailing list (join here), you know that it’s been a busy couple of weeks for me. And yet, yesterday, when the dust was still settling, I astonished myself by having a highly productive day.
I did all the things!
I wrote an email to my subscribers, went to the gym, bought groceries, and got organized for the week. I had an A+ day and I was all jazzed up to make Monday just as productive. I had plans—BIG plans for today.
And then I got out of bed.
As soon as I started my morning routine, my body and mind were like, NOPE.
The question to ask when you feel tired to the bone
Whenever I feel my whole being putting the breaks on, I ask myself this question: What do I REALLY need today?
Not ‘what do I think I should need’. But what does my heart, mind, and soul really need. Often the answer to that question throws a wrench in my plans. Here’s another key thing that sensitive introverts like me need to remember:
Sometimes tired is just tired. But other times, there is a deeper emotional component to our exhaustion. Since it’s my job to look inward and stay connected to my intuition, I’ve gotten pretty skilled at pinpointing the source of the heavy feeling.
And, yeah, sometimes it’s from eating too many tacos. But today, I knew there was an emotional aspect to my body’s sluggishness. So, here’s what I did.
What introverts can do to feel less tired
I know that for introverts, especially, it’s essential that we listen to the subtle messages from our soul. So, I set aside my grand plans and I listened to what my heart was trying to tell me for a moment. I felt its sadness and made no effort to fix, distract, or judge.
Then I did some EFT tapping to release the emotions. Which brings me to where I am now, writing this lil’ snippet of insight to you.
An important message from your soul
Tiredness is a primary way that your heart and soul communicates with you. Do you know what it’s trying to tell you?
As you go about your week, I hope you remember that sometimes acing the day means staying still and having a long overdue conversation with your soul.
Because I’m sure you don’t need any more seriousness on a Monday, I’ll leave you with this light-hearted article that I wrote a while ago:
Introvert: 8 Sneaky Signs You’re About to Self-Destruct
Over to you
Do you feel tired to the bone? Please feel free to share your thoughts and experiences related to innie exhaustion. I’d love to hear from you! 🙂
Love,
I enjoy your blog and helpful innie tips, so please don’t take this as a criticism as it is not meant to be. How is an innie supposed to be able to take care of themself when they are tired to the bone or about to self-destruct, etc. But they have a job they have to do, and in my case an absolutely hellish job that requires lots of interaction with people all day everyday? I don’t have the luxury of just not working that day or working less that day or closing myself off from interacting with people for even a short time. I don’t know how to take care of my innie needs when I am in constant overwhelm mode. Any suggestions for us innies in that type of situation would be appreciated, thank you.
I feel like I am a little of both.Introvert and Extrovert. But I guess you can say I am 70 percent introvert and 30 percent extrovert. My introvert takes over more inside of me. I do get tired and drained a lot. I try to get energy from doing other stuff.Sometimes reading helps.Watching a good movie. I guess it depends on what I enjoy by myself without interruptions. That is when I get my energy back.
That article help a lot because today I was lazy but later in the day I was tired even though I didn’t even do much today or went anywhere. Even on days I just don’t do anything period I still feel tired later on that day.
That happens every damn day after work. I’m totally drained after interactions with other people. This is my biggest dilemma because I would like to have my own business instead of working for other people.
