INFJ intuition – how to follow and listen to it when making decisions
Intuition is an INFJ’s greatest strength and yet we often lose touch with it as we try to fit in.
In a world that constantly tells us to follow the crowd, INFj’s can easily lose their mightiest gift and ally: intuition.
All INFJ’s experience trouble when not following intuition, and instead listening to the crowd about what’s right, what we should do, and how we should they react. It’s confusing and hard, I know. And a lot of times you get hurt and feel regret for that matter: “Why didn’t I listen to what my gut told me, I would have done the right thing”.
An INFJ’s intuition, our greatest strength
A while ago, I had a job interview. Decent salary, pleasant work environment, pleasant people. I passed the interview and the only thing remaining was to sign the contract. But something didn’t feel right. Everyone was telling me to accept it, but everything inside of me said not to. All of my INFJ alarms were turning on and telling me to get out of there.
Simply put, my intuition was telling me that something was wrong. I listened to it. Months after, I found out that the company was a fraudulent. It was a phantom company.
INFJ’s live through these kind of decisions on a whole new scale. We face constant pressure, comments, so called “advices”… Our answer to all that should always be: I choose to listen myself. My intuition. When everything inside of us tells us something is wrong, listen to that voice, he is your greatest ally.
Making an intuitive decision
Sometimes it will feel like your intuition is leading you in the wrong direction. Do not be mistaken, there will be pressure from the outside world, convincing you to “go with the flow”.
But there are no right or wrong choices in life, there are only learning opportunities. If you listen to your inner voice every time, you will never have to look back and wonder. You will never have to ask yourself that fearful question “what if”? When making a decision about something important, consult yourself first.
As an INFJ, your ability to assess a situation is one of your most powerful weapons. Imagine the feeling the solution will bring. Will it bring you peace, or will it bring you constant worry? Try to calm your thoughts and focus on the present situation. When in a calm state, you will allow your inner voice a chance to be heard, you will allow it to help you make the best decision.
Your intuition is the key for living your life how you imagined it. Trust it, even though sometimes it might feel that it’s leading you astray, believe in it. Your inner voice knows the answer you are seeking.
How to know when you did it right
You simply will. Even scientists don’t know what goes on in our brains when we are trying to decide something. Recent studies agree that humans in fact use 100 percent of their brain (not 10, that’s a myth), but still don’t know all the answers, and that’s ok.
Your intuition does. Nurture it, grow it. Never allow anyone to tell you that you should change, that you should try to fit in. Your INFJ identity is what makes you unique, be proud of it!
Intuition is something all INFJ’s have in common, something that gives us the advantage, not because it will solve everything, but because by following it, you will find yourself. You will find your purpose. It will give you that inner strength to become who you are meant to be.
Over to you
Please share you experiences with INFJ intuition, I would love to hear from you.
This is absolutely true. It wasn’t until approaching my 30th birthday that I realized how much suffering not listening to my intuition caused me, and how much I was betraying myself. Now, I have a great trusting relationship with my intuition. Really it’s like my best friend.
Tnx Bri_Allen. Glad to hear you are following your intuition and treating it like a best friend. 🙂
You have no idea how much I needed to find this post right now. I needed this reminder that im losing access to my intuition, to myself. I’m jumping back into the journey of finding my true self and these reminders are so helpful.
I’m so glad you found it when you needed it the most, Nicole! 🙂
Hi Marko.Im a Nigerian and learnt how to use my intuition at the age of 18 in the university.its helped to guide my decisions and I’m grateful for it.i’m 28 now and I’ve had to deal with people coming to find me because of this gift.
After a while,i saw I was feeling drained as friends and family wanted my attention. It was always anger, resentment and more.
I’ve learnt to find alone time with my keyboard and other abilities especially my music and art.
Thanks for sharing this Marko.Glad to know I’m not a crazy African.Lol
Hi Kasope! I understand you completely and you are most welcome. 🙂 I’m glad to hear your intuition is helping you through this marvelous journey called life. 🙂
You are not crazy at all, I thank you for sharing this. 🙂
Thank you for this insightful post, I often forget how useful or reliable my intuition is. There are many things around me that I have been able to see before it happens but have no reason to know why I feel that so I dismiss it.
At times i do wonder if it is intuition or fear or something else that pretends to be intuition.
You are most welcome Sotirios. 🙂
Thank you for sharing your insight on intuition.
My intuition has always been strong, even from a very young age. There is a very distinct feeling that comes along with not listening to it. However when I do listen to what it is telling me even tho it does not make sense to those around me or it hurts and upsets them the outcome is always for the best and I never regret it. I have learned over the years that when my intuition is pointing me in a different direction that’s the direction I must go even if it doesn’t totally make sense to me either. Eventually it all becomes clear and I know i did the right thing.
I am happy to hear Pashes that you have such a strong intuition, and that it has always helped you, and has been your ally on your road of discovery. 🙂
Completely true! I had an experience recently, where I did not listen to my intuition and really wish I had. Everything about the job seemed great, but there was something not quite right…they were moving everything along so quickly. It was barely a week from when I had applied and was hired. My family and friends were pushing for me to just ignore my “doubts” because I needed to be working. I got the job and started there, only to find out that they had no working bathroom and I would have to go to the store across the way in order to do so!
Not to mention the water that backed up in front of the safe and in the break room sink that smelt like sewage…and my co-workers thought it was alright to make fun of each other and my manager had a history, as she put it, of hiring crazy people. The job literally “stank.” And when I tried to quit after getting another offer from where I had wanted to work in the first place, the manager wouldn’t let me! I was really upset and felt trapped. I eventually left and I started my new job a few days ago. They are great and professional and I look forward to my work relationship with them!
Thank you for this article! It’s a reminder for me to always listen to my INFJ intuition!
Hi Marko,
I’m Reward. My intuition has always been very strong from a young age. At a point I got really scared of it. In fact, I still am. It’s become even stronger since I discovered I was an INFJ. Almost psychic like powers. Really scary
Hi Reward! The INFJ intuition can be scary, but know that it’s your ally, and it’s there to help you in good or in bad situations. It’s one of the most amazing traits of an INFJ. 🙂
Hi Marco, really happy to find your website,I hope you read my message. As an infj, I’m extremely ambitious, about everything…but life don’t always goes on well, when things seem like falling apart, I start feeling like I’m guilty,or if I could do it better..and it gives me the sadness of an infj. although, having no one to talk about my feelings is the worst thing I can tell . Sometimes feel like I’m the loniest person in the world, and it scares me when I know I’ve got a thousand of friends… strange.. isn’t it? I wanna be psychologist , so I can use my everything in it.thank you for reading .if you can, email me , I’ve got a lot of things to say for your infj experiment ❤
Hi Atie, I understand you regarding the feelings of guilt and loneliness, too. You are not alone, this is something many INFJs can relate with. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, I’m glad you liked the article! 🙂
Hi Marko, your article was really interesting. Its so refreshing to learn about infj, it helps to feel better about ourselves. About the intuition, I experienced it when I wanted to do a school that was a little bit far but not that much, I wanted to do it but I was lost in my decisions and I had fear, but my intuition was saying to myself to do this school while my family was discouraging me doing it. In the end, as I was scared, lost and discouraged I didnt follow my intuition unfortunately (I found excuses like “I’m scared” “does it worth it” “you’re not even sure what to do” “everyone said to you not to go, if you go and it end up bad you will hate yourself” “plus my friends are in the plan B school” etc), but I should have follow my intuition. Plan B was a bad idea, I really didn’t like that it was some of the hardest time of my life, so now I wasted time and I hated myself during a complete year for that (and probably more). No I have to start everything from zero without being sure to will do it right. So you’re definitely right. Also I wanted to ask you, how do you see the difference between your intuition and your unconscious fears telling you not to do something ? Thank you for reading! 🙂
Hi Sana, thank you so much for sharing this! 🙂 In my case, the difference is that those fears are self-sabotaging and they make me say something that’s not me, they make me fear my decision, while when I listen to my intuition, I know I am doing something I honestly feel, and because I am following my intuition, fear is not there. So that presence of fear makes the difference.
